Homemade Denture Cleaners

Denture wearers need to clean their plates daily because bacteria can build up between the plates and gums. While there are several name-brand products available that do this well, several inexpensive products around the house can do the job for a fraction of the cost.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Some dentists recommend putting your dentures in a cup of full-strength hydrogen peroxide to kill germs and bacteria. Hydrogen peroxide will also whiten and brighten your dentures.

Baking Soda and Vinegar
Soaking dentures in a combination of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and enough white vinegar to cover the dentures will remove food and residue. The mixture will bubble up like store-bought tablets, leaving the dentures white and bright. Be sure to brush and rinse your dentures well before putting them back in your mouth to eliminate the vinegar taste.

Bleach and Water
Bleach is a great cleaning product with many uses. You can soak your dentures for 20-30 minutes in a solution of one part bleach to 10 parts water. This will remove most stains, whiten the dentures, and kill any bacteria that may have built up. Rinse your dentures well to eliminate the bleach taste before putting them in your mouth.
